SPICE

Give me a quick run down of your life story. Where from etc.

I was born in 1970 in a town called Värnamo. My life is a battle to reach absolute freedom.

How long have you been playing bass?

On and off since 1988.

What made you start?

The guy who played bass in my band Aeon quit and I took over.

What kinds of basses have you played and owned?

Fender Precision, a Fender bass with an ESP neck and my long time friend Rickenbacker from '74.

What do you play now and why?

Rickenbacker because of the neck and it looks cool.

Can you tell me what gear you use? Like from your amp to your strings and effects.

I use a Sunn Coliseum-300 with two pa bass speakers. A turbo distortion pedal. I play on thick strings (110-120).

When did you start playing in bands? What other bands have you played in?

I started when I was 16. I played in a band called Aeon between 1988-93, then Spiritual Beggars, a side project called Seagrave, a metal band. In 1997 I joined The Mushroom River Band. 1986-88 I played in a numerous of constellations.

Have you always been a singer too?

I started singing when I was 4. I dreamed to become a new Elvis. I had my first gig when I was 7 singing Elvis songs in a dress like Elvis had in the 70's.

If you had to give up one or the other which would it be?

The bass. I want to be able to express myself.

What do you do for practice any routines or regiment's?

I drink two six-pack a day... at least.

How do you get ready for the stage?

I drink beer and punch the walls while screaming.

What is like for you in the studio, as far as singing and playing bass? Can you walk me through a recording session with SPICE?

We record drums and bass together then guitar, Hammond and vocals, then leads. I drink the whole time, it helps me keep my focus and it helps to get ideas and angles.

How do you write; on bass only or guitar or both?

Mostly on the guitar but we also jam a lot in Beggars.

Here are a few questions from a fan.

Guitarist Mike Amott has a massive low end and doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that agrees to turn his amp down. How do you make the bass fit his sound and still cut through?

On the live gigs it cuts through but on the records the bass is mostly a support to the guitars and a fill out to get more power.

Any favorite bassists?

Geezer Butler, Roger Waters, Larry Taylor and Mel Schacher.

Was it hard to fill out the music under the solos before you got the Hammond player in the lineup?

Thanks fan

Hmm... maybe I can't remember.

So how long do you see yourself being a rock bassist?

I don't know, I don't have no plans to quit yet.

What are your long term plans for the future?

To drink, write, play and get rich.

Will S.B.'s be doing a tour in the states anytime soon?

I have no idea but I hope so.

If you could be in any band for a day who would it be?

Elvis... if he decides to come back.

Who's in you CD player right now?

Cryptic Writings- Megadeth.

Any final words for Bottom Feeder fans?

Drink beer everyday, go vegetarian, read Bukowski, follow your dream and buy our records.
